In one week the California Coastal Commission will vote\u00a0on a controversial plan that would expand and diversify ranching in Point Reyes National Seashore and “lethally manage” the native tule elk that live there.<\/p>\n

The impacts of the 5,000 cattle on tens of thousands of acres currently leased by commercial beef and dairy ranchers\u00a0include massive soil degradation, native plant destruction, water pollution, spreading of invasive plants, and impacts to wildlife.<\/p>\n

Judith, a\u00a0growing grassroots movement is\u00a0pushing back against the powerful special interests\u00a0<\/em>that are attempting to lock-in private ranching that benefits a privileged few.<\/p>\n

Please use your voice and tell the Commission to save tule elk and restore this fragile environment\u00a0by voting\u00a0NO on the\u00a0plan >><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Comments to the Commission are being accepted until TOMORROW, April 16th.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u00a0The plan would\u00a0shoot native tule elk,\u00a0a subspecies of elk found only in California.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On April 22nd the Commission will review the plan proposed by the National Park Service to ensure consistency with California laws to protect coastal resources and public access to the coast.<\/p>\n

The plan will guide the management of the Seashore for the next 20 years. It is important we get this right.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This plan is\u00a0not consistent<\/em>\u00a0with the California Coastal Management Plan for many reasons. It would allow significantly new development, uses and activities on national parkland which would irreversibly and negatively impact the nearby coastal zone resources and public enjoyment of the coastal zone.\u00a0Authorizing additional and expanded agriculture uses will cause further conflicts between ranching operations and native wildlife.<\/p>\n

This plan would also\u00a0shoot native tule elk<\/em>.\u00a0Point Reyes National Seashore\u00a0is home to one of the largest populations of tule elk, a subspecies of elk found only in California.<\/p>\n

Please tell California officials to reject this horrific plan, save tule elk, and protect Point Reyes National Seashore\u00a0>><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Commercial livestock grazing and new farming activities should NOT be expanded at the expense of public recreation, natural scenic quality, and wildlife conservation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
