ARTAINMENT: APSARAS

Dear friends,

I want to share with you an amazing story regarding this musical selection..years ago ( pre google world) I was working on  the majestic laser Light Show  @ The Morrison Planetarium In SF, Ca..Working well into the night I left SF , Golden Gate park and headed back to Marin, co. across the GG Bridge..

I was exhausted so I stopped  at a gas station  parking lot to rest..well anyway I fell asleep and about 3 AM in the morning a Police officer woke me up and told me I cannot park here ..OK So headed out and turned on the radio to help me stay awake and lo and behold I heard this beautiful rhythmic piece of Music..I immediately made note of the time and station and decided to track down this beautiful piece of Music..

Well I called the radio station in the AM as I presumed they had a play list.. initially they stoned walled me and did not want to be bothered..  Really Guys..So I decided to pull rank on them and mentioned that I am a musicologist/MD and felt this remarkable piece of music has great healing potential as it possesses perfect Rhythms , melodies and harmonies beautifully interwoven!

Well they relented and told me the song was Apsaras,The Group was Apsaras and the Album was Apsaras from Japan..

Viola!

Next step was to find the album/Cd..This was a time where there were still music stores.. I went hither and yon to various music stores to no avail (remember no Google at this time )..However The last Music store I went to was Mill Valley Village Music, a very famous store with an extraordinary array of classic vinyl  and you name it…  Well they had indeed a used copy of this album and I purchased the CD for a big 2 Dollars! 

As you can well imagine I became totally engrossed with this music as I knew and felt it was a very special piece of music.. I must have played it at least 100 times in the first  24 hrs I was addicted To Apsaras!! 

However the story is not over..At this time of my life I was bi coastal (SF-NY)  In one of my last journeys  I visited NYC and went to The Metropolitan Museum of Art On 5th Ave..as they were holding a major Buddha Art exhibition..

They devoted 2  major wings of the Museum in which extraordinary massive THANKAS were draped from the walls along with Other Tibetan Buddhist Art..Now comes the next interesting part.. 

As you traveled from one exhibit hall to the next in the intervening space was a beautiful statue of Maitreya Buddha enclosed in a glass case.. So obviously I stopped by to marvel at this beautiful statue and read the statement about it..Well above his head were golden Angels which were called Apsaras Angels… REALLY !!!.. I was floored!
